What about a different kind of holiday? The wonderful landscapes of Liguria will unfold themselves by the slow rhythm of a bicycle!

Our hinterland is rich in breathtaking landscapes you may comfortably reach both by dirt roads and asphalt roads. You’ll be surprised by the magic in them and their variety!

Cycling holidays

You can ride on paths and roads leading from sea level up to Mount Beigua, at 1300 m. Uphill roads may be shorter but steeper, longer but smoother. They suit the whole family, because you can choose from a wide range of alternatives according to different degrees of difficulty: alone, with friends, with your family.

This way of travelling is called slow travelling just because it lets you gradually enjoy routes, places, traditions and details according to your attitude.

Climbing up through ancient villages you can find medieval houses hosting trattorie and osterie (typical small restaurants and wine and simple food bars) offering shelter and tradition.

You may discover here the Mediterranean flora in a springtime blooming and the villagers basking in the sun having a chat with their neighbours.

Itineraries

Various itineraries start directly from our hotel. Our green hills are scattered with brooks, woods and small villages where you can taste excellent Ligurian wines like Pigato, Buzetto, Rossese and typical dishes like boar stew.

The most appreciated itineraries are:

Albissola-Bric Genova: It starts from Luceto, an outlying area of Albisola, and meanders along the Buraxe, a small water stream. Step by step you leave country houses behind you and go up-hill to Bric Genova (bric means mountain in our dialect).

The hight difference is m 500 and from the top you can marvel at the Apennines, the Gulf and the City of Genoa, in front of you.

Ellera: this ring itinerary starts from the tiny village of Ellera, where a couple of colour mills are still to be seen (where natural colours were ground in the past for the decoration of pottery). Here a dirt road leads you alternatively through ancient houses and thick foliage, smooth and steep paths: you climb up to m 480 but the landscape is charming. From here you start your way down to the village. Ellera is a good starting point for your excursions because a lot of paths of different difficulties begin here. Beautiful landscapes with woods, rocks, creeks and tiny old rural houses await you and your family.

Albissola-Naso di Gatto: this itinerary is a little longer and starts at the Collette in Albissola Marina, a hill at the back of our hotel. You cycle or walk up to the hills over Savona and there you can choose from three directions: back to Albissola, down to Savona or forward to Naso di Gatto, a place on the Apennines surrounding Savona.

Albisola-Celle: from Albisola Superiore up to Torre Bregalla, through Pecorile, Cassisi you can reach Celle, on the coast.

You’ll be surprised by these itineraries, because you change from a seaside atmosphere to a hilly landscape in a 30 min walk! The Mediterranean “macchia” boasts various species of trees, bush and herbs that change gradually once you leave the sea behind. From the top of the hills you can admire the sea from east to west and the landscape all around: those hills are not too high but tower over the panorama!

Liguria Cup: Great Cross Country Race MTB Albisola

On April 13 th the Albissola Great Cross Country Race II will take place thanks to the organization of Albissola Bike: why don’t you join in?

The competition is part of the Liguria Cup Circuit and is the last of three stages. The meeting is at h. 8.00 in Luceto, Albisola, and departure is at h . 9.30. The route is 50 kilometers long and reaches an altitude of 1,850 meters.

From Luceto you climb up to the Gran Premio della Montagna (Great Mountain Prize), at Naso di Gatto (900 meters above sea level) and from there you can walk along the paths of the Alta Via of the Ligurian Mountains before descending again to Albisola.

At the end of the competition a Pasta Party will refresh you. Not only the winners will be rewarded here, but also a prize draw will console the lucky ones with a day sailing departing from the Port of Varazze, organised by Vento in Poppa.

For those who do not take part in the competition an area dedicated to yoga with professional instructors is available.
